18 Questions with Faraaz Sulaiman | Meet the Senior Management Team

Meet The Team

18 Years of SOLID means 18 questions with each of the SOLID Senior Management team who, along with your support, keep the wheels of our successful business moving ahead.

Designed to be insightful and fun (what our brand is really all about) – this series is really a ‘the-people-behind-the-business’ type of thing. Please join me in getting to know our Senior Management Team a little more.

Next up we have: Faraaz Sulaiman

Faraaz is one of our Development Managers and after starting out in our Cape Town office, he and his family have taken full advantage of our remote working policy and are now located in Dubai. When he’s not drenched in air conditioning he’s a quiet but determined leader within the business who has been a regular nominee for our annual staff ‘SOLID Innovator Awards’. His other passions include his team(s), SOLID Table Tennis tournaments and exploring his new home town.

His 18 questions went a little like this:

Question 1: What’s your favourite time of day?

Question 2: What’s the biggest learning experience you’ve had?

Getting an angry phone call from a client who was upset they weren’t informed about a change in project go live date. We told the client’s colleague, who promised us that they’d relay the message. They didn’t. Learnt that it is always better to send written comms to all parties/stakeholders for important updates, and not rely on someone else to pass the message along. Effective communication is key.

Question 3: What’s one vice you wish you could give up?

Watching Youtube shorts or Instagram reels. So much time lost!

Question 4: What’s a cause that is important to you?

Can’t think of any specific here.

Question 5: What’s the best compliment you’ve ever received?

There was a point where I’d sometimes hum to myself when working on a complex problem. Not sure about the best, but the one compliment that stood out was when the person that sat next to me at work (previous job) said that my humming is calming and soothing and helps them concentrate

Question 6: When are you the most inspired?

About halfway through drinking a cappuccino. The remaining half hardly gets finished as I get super zoned into whatever task/meeting I’m busy with.

Question 7: Sweet or savoury?

Both. Favourite atm is pairing cashew nuts with any chocolate

Question 8: What song can you listen to on repeat?

I want it that way (acoustic version by Jonah Baker)

Question 9: What are the three things you can’t live without?

Internet, Cellphone, Laptop

Question 10: What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve done in your life?

Relocate to a different country

Question 11: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received?

Never stop trying to learn and improve.

Question 12: What’s something you notice about someone when you first meet them?

Their face?

Question 13: What’s your favourite board game?

30 Seconds

Question 14: What’s one city you’ve always dreamed of traveling to?

Tokyo, Japan

Question 15: What’s the one talent you wish you had?

To be able to absorb information like a sponge and never forget it.

Question 16: What’s your favourite fast food order?

Chicken Strips, Chips and Dip (peri mayo) at Mochachos

Question 17: Do you like surprises?

Question 18: What did you want to do with your life at age 12?

Build and develop games

And that’s a wrap!

We hope you enjoyed this ’18 Questions’, know a little more about Faraaz and are looking forward to getting to know our Senior Management Team with this series.
